Collins Comfort Masters Plumbing will be there whenever you are in need of garbage disposal repair, but we also want to help you keep your garbage disposal in good shape. Be careful of what you put down your drain and make sure that you spend a few minutes each week cleaning your disposal. Read on to find out what other tips you should put to good use.
Ice it Up
Every week put a few ice cubes down the drain and churn them up in the garbage disposal. This helps with avoiding garbage disposal repair by breaking up any grease that you might have in your disposal and helps it to work better. One of the best things about using ice is that it is non-abrasive and will not harm the environment.
Keep it Clean
To keep your garbage disposal clean and smelling fresh, pour a half cup of baking soda and a half cup of hot distilled white vinegar down the drain. Let the mixture sit for five minutes before washing it away with hot water. You can also use chopped up orange and lemon peels to get rid of bad smells in your garbage disposals. Just make sure that you use small pieces and wash them down with some cold water. The oil in the orange and lemon peels will get rid of those bad smells.
